Proof Of Identification & Entry Requirements:
• Minimum age is 16 years. Unless you are 18 years of age, you need the enrolment form signed by a Guardian
• Be able to read and write basic English
• Be physically capable of working outdoors on your feet.
PPE Requirements
• Appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
• Safety shoes or boots
• Hi-vis shirt
• A broad-brimmed sun hat and water bottle are recommended
• Provide photo identification

Course Overview
Gantry Crane / Overhead Crane is designed to give the trainee the knowledge and skills to operate the Gantry Crane / Overhead Crane.
The course is a competency based face-to-face training. Participants will show competency by passing both theory and practical Assessments. It is a Work Health Safety Requirement for the Participants to be able to read and write Basic English.
The Participants will receive a Statement of Attainment and a small wallet sized plastic card when the Participants are deemed to be competent.
This unit covers conducting Gantry Crane / Overhead Crane operations in the construction and resources industries. It includes planning and preparing; conducting machine pre-operational checks; operating the Gantry Crane / Overhead Crane, securing, lifting and placing materials; carrying out machine operator maintenance; and shutting down the Gantry Crane / Overhead Crane.
Note: Bridge and gantry crane licence – CB
This licence class includes bridge and gantry cranes that are controlled from a permanent cabin, control station or remotely controlled with more than three powered operations.
Powered operations include:
- north/south
- east/west
- up/down
- rotating attachment—this also includes the application of load estimation and slinging techniques to move a load.
A bridge crane comprises a bridge beam mounted at each end to an end carriage, capable of travelling along elevated runways and having one or more hoisting mechanisms arranged to traverse across the bridge. A gantry crane comprises a bridge beam, supported at each end by legs mounted on end carriages, capable of travelling on supporting surfaces or deck levels, whether fixed or not, including a crab with one or more hoisting units arranged to travel across the bridge.
Course Outline
This Gantry Crane / Overhead Crane course provides participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to operate electric gantry or overhead cranes with three movements (south/north, east/west, up/down) for lifting and shifting loads.
Participants will acquire the following skills and knowledge:
– Risk assessments and controls
– Pre-start inspections
– Identifying lifting equipment
– Reporting and recording faults
– Calculating volume and weights
– Lifting and shifting loads safely
– Shutting down and stowing equipment and cranes
Training and assessment would be conducted at the premises of industry clients, provided their equipment complies with industry training standards.
